Aputure Amaran 200d S

200W daylight-balanced point source with Bowens mount for serious key lighting.

$239

Why it's in the kit

The Key Light Airs are good for talking-head close-ups. The 200d S is for when I need real output — lighting a wider interview shot, cutting through ambient window light, or bouncing off a ceiling for a soft fill that looks like natural light. It's the difference between 'lit' and 'lit well.'

How I run it

Key light in a 90cm softbox for interview shoots, positioned at 45° above eye line with a white reflector on the fill side. For travel, it's usually the 60c instead — the 200d comes out only for the shoots where the extra output matters.

What I almost bought

  • Godox SL150W — Noisier fan and no Sidus Link app integration.

Skip it if

If you record solo talking-head with a fixed camera position, the Key Light Airs plus a window are sufficient.

Strengths

  • + 200W through a Bowens mount — works with any modifier on the market
  • + Silent operation — no fan noise in recording

Trade-offs

  • Daylight-only (5600K) — needs gels for warmer looks
