Why it's in the kit

The machine that closed the gap between my edit rig and my dev box. 4K timelines scrub in real time, the fan almost never spins up, and battery still gets me through a cross-continent flight. It made 'mobile' stop being a compromise.

How I run it

Docked into the Studio Display during the day — one Thunderbolt cable for power, display, and peripherals. Editing tools on the internal SSD; dev environment in a separate user account so the two never collide.

What I almost bought

  • MacBook Pro M3 Pro — Fast enough for 1080p but stutters on my 4K timelines.
  • Mac Studio — More power per dollar but I lose the mobile edit rig.

If your heaviest workload is documents and browser tabs, an Air M-series gets you 90% of the experience for a third of the price.
