The “too late” illusion
Bitcoin in 2013. People said it was too late. Ethereum in 2017. Too late. NFTs in 2020. Too late. AI tools in 2023. Too late.
Every single one of those had a bigger wave after the one people thought was the last one.
The feeling of being late is an emotional response to seeing other people’s results. It’s not an analysis of where the technology actually is. Most people confuse “I missed the first wave” with “there are no more waves.”
There are always more waves.
Cycles don’t end. They evolve.
Web3 didn’t die after the bear market. It restructured. The speculation cleared out. The infrastructure kept building. The next version is quieter, more functional, and less hyped. That’s when the real builders enter.
AI didn’t peak with ChatGPT’s launch. That was the awareness phase. The integration phase is happening now. Agents, workflows, embedded AI, autonomous systems. Each layer creates new entry points that didn’t exist six months ago.
The people who think they’re late to AI are early to AI agents. The people who think they’re late to crypto are early to onchain infrastructure. The people who think they’re late to content creation are early to AI augmented media.
The door doesn’t close. It moves.
Early looks different than you think
Early doesn’t mean first. It means present before the majority understands what’s happening.
Being early to Bitcoin in 2011 looked like buying magic internet money. Being early to AI in 2024 looked like learning prompt engineering while everyone else was still debating if it was a fad.
Early always looks weird. It feels uncertain. The validation doesn’t exist yet. That discomfort is the signal, not the warning.
If it feels obvious and safe, you’re not early. You’re on time at best.
The real risk
The risk isn’t being late. The risk is sitting out entirely because the timing didn’t feel perfect.
Perfect timing doesn’t exist. There’s only showing up, learning fast, and being positioned when the next wave hits.
Every version of the internet created new winners. The next version will too.
