Why it's in the kit

Self-custody is the foundation of participating in web3. Hot wallets are convenient for daily transactions, but everything I hold long-term lives on the Ledger. The Nano X strikes the right balance — Bluetooth means I can sign transactions from my phone on the go, but the private key never leaves the device. It's the line between 'your keys' and 'not your keys.'

How I run it

Primary ETH and DOT storage. Connected to MetaMask via USB for desktop dApps and via Ledger Live mobile for on-the-go signing. Recovery phrase stored in a steel capsule in a safe — not digitally, not in 1Password.

What I almost bought

  • Trezor Model T — Touchscreen is nice but the device is bulkier and the mobile experience is weaker.

Skip it if

If you hold less than ~$1K in crypto, a hot wallet with good security practices is sufficient until you grow.

Strengths

  • + Certified secure element chip — never exposes the private key
